FAQ-Peace Inside-Counselling and Psychotherapy in Galway city-Support-Help - Contact Us - Anxiety, Depression, Grief, Loneliness, Trauma, Anger Management - Low self esteem - Sexuality issues - Relationship issues - Best Psychotherapist in Galway
Sometimes used interchangeably there can be little distinction between the work of counselling and psychotherapy. Both address the mental health of the individual and can help them to integrate difficult experiences.

In general counselling work is deemed to be more short term work than psychotherapy, helping the client to address and move through a particular presenting issue. Psychotherapy will explore more of the origins of the issue and see how it effects the client’s life. In broader terms it delves deeper into the source of undesired patterns in the client’s life providing the client with an opportunity to engage with, understand and ultimately change these patterns.

While psychotherapists will be trained in the skill of counselling, not all counsellors will be trained in the art of psychotherapy.

Referrals are not necessary. In order to make an appointment or get in touch with us simply fill in our contact form and we will get back to you at the earliest possible opportunity in order to arrange an initial appointment.
Otherwise you could email us directly at hello@peaceinside.ie

The first session is an opportunity for us to get a sense of each other and whether or not we might work well together. On your first appointment, your therapist will go through your reasons for seeking our services and what changes you would like to see in your lived experience. They will take a personal history that lets them get to know you and helps them identify how best they can meet your needs.

The initial session will be you will have the space to describe what has brought you to seek therapy at this particular time and may speak about your presenting issue as well as some significant events from your past. Your therapist will explain a little bit about how we work, and the counselling/ psychotherapeutic process.

You will be provided with a contract that confirms the intention of working together towards agreed goals. Any questions you may have will be fully addressed in this meeting.

Confidentiality is of the utmost importance to us and will be protected at all times. All therapists at Peace Inside are bound by the strict ethical codes of their accrediting bodies and those of Peace Inside itself.

Each individual is different and is affected by their circumstances in unique ways so it is difficult to give a precise number of sessions that you may choose to attend. It also takes time for an effective working relationship to be formed between client and therapist. The greater the level of security and trust felt in the therapeutic relationship the more effective the work will be. It can be very significant for the client to simply be heard with compassion and without judgement, this in itself can effect change quite quickly.

Six sessions on a weekly basis (each session lasts 50-55 mins) is traditionally the number used to say when a client will experience change in their lived experience however they then might decide to explore themselves further. For a client that comes because they have reached a crisis point in their lives once the crisis has been managed then they might decide to engage more in the psychotherapeutic work, rather than the counselling aspect.

We do not prescribe a set amount of sessions, instead preferring to review the work to see if you are getting what you need from the therapy and if it is continuing to be effective. Once you have reached a point that you feel happy to leave therapy then it is important to have a closing session to reinforce the work that has taken place and to provide an appropriate ending to the process.

Our price range is €60 – €80. Please ask your individual therapist about their rates and the payment methods they use. For more information have a look at our Investment page.

Our cancellation policy is designed to encourage the consistent attendance of appointments, ensure that no potential clients miss out on the opportunity of services from unused appointment times, and to protect the income of our staff.

If the client cancels less than 48 hours in advance of their session or does not show up for their appointment, then they will be charged for the full rate of their session (except in extreme circumstances).

Therapy is most effective with regular attendance, while we appreciate that sometimes unforeseen circumstances do arise meaning that a session may be missed, if absences are repeated regularly then this will be explored in the following appointments and the contract may be ended.

Over the course of the pandemic, online or, phone mental health services became much more common. At Peace Inside we provide online therapy. Discuss with your therapist the options you have and the platform they use, find a quite place where you feel safe to talk and begin your therapeutic journey.

Please note that the contract for online/phone services is different to a face-to-face contract as it reflects the different aspects of the therapy that it is advisable to consider, such as how to manage your boundaries around therapy, how to mind yourself after a session, what to do in case a call drops.

Confidentiality is vital to the safety and trust of any therapeutic relationship. All of our counsellors/psychotherapists are strictly bound by the codes of ethics of their accrediting bodies. In addition, all staff at Peace Inside are bound by our own Confidentiality Policy
